October 28th. After fully considering the general situation and the probabilities of Hongkong being attacked, the Military Authorities consider that maxims are much more

urgently needed in South Africa than in Hongkong. In view of the number of intim guns comprised in the Hongkong armament and of the fact that such gins are very urgently needed in

South Africa I hope that you will be able to consent to plac-

ing seven out of the twelve guns belonging to the Hongkong

Volunteers at the disposal of the South African Government

with as much Mark VI ammunition as can be spared.
